Lemon Lime Maranta

Scientific Name: Maranta leuconeura

The Lemon Lime Maranta, also known as Maranta leuconeura 'Lemon Lime,' is a striking houseplant characterized by its vibrant variegated leaves. The leaves are oval-shaped and feature a unique pattern of bright yellow and green stripes that resemble the colors of a lemon-lime drink. The undersides of the leaves are often a deep purple, adding an additional layer of visual interest. This plant typically grows to a height of about 12 to 18 inches and has a spreading growth habit, making it an excellent choice for tabletop displays or hanging baskets.

Light

The Lemon Lime Maranta thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. A spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal.

Watering

Water the plant when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Use room temperature water to maintain consistent moisture. Ensure that excess water can drain away to prevent root rot.

Humidity

This plant prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 50% to 60%. To increase humidity, consider using a humidifier or placing the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water.

TemperatuMaintain a warm environment with temperatures ranging from 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix, preferably one designed for houseplants. A combination of potting soil, perlite, and peat moss works well for maintaining moisture without retaining excess water.

Fertilizing

Feed the Lemon Lime Maranta every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Hold off on fertilizing during fall and winter.
